Dunstable Downs Health Walks

Dunstable Downs Health Walks

Groundwork currently runs a monthly health walk on the Downs. The walks take place on the third Wednesday of each month, departing from the Chiltern’s Gateway Centre at 10.30am and follow a fairly flat, surfaced route along the top of the site.

Guided walks and family days in 2008

As part of the activity programme Groundwork ran guided walks and family days at the site. 2008 saw an Easter Egg hunt, a Dawn Chorus Walk delivered by the Luton and South Bedfordshire RSPB group and Rock Around Dunstable Downs, a day of geology themed activities led by the Luton and Bedfordshire Geology Group (web link - http://www.bedsrigs.org.uk/)

The activity programme, supported by Bedfordshire County Council with funding from Sport England and the Big Lottery Fund’s joint ‘Active England’ programme, is to promote walking and cycling for both recreational and everyday journeys, encourage people to access the new facilities on Dunstable Downs by sustainable means and support work to develop and diversify the audience for the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the new Chilterns Gateway centre.
